Fisiologia Humana Vander Pdf 25Chapter 1.1 Fundamentals of the Cardiovascular System1.1. IntroductionThe cardiovascular system is the set of organs that are responsible for maintaining blood pressure, circulating blood, and regulating heart rhythm. The human body comprises of two major systems: the cardiovascular system and the nervous system. They work together to provide life sustaining functions to all parts of the body with adequate oxygen supply to vital organs, tissues and cells in good health. The good health of all parts of the body depends on these systems that are not fully functional or are malfunctioning. For example, if the cardiovascular system loses its ability to circulate oxygen-rich blood into the body tissues, then serious damage may occur due to lack of oxygen supply. The most common problems with the cardiovascular system are high blood pressure, cholesterol deposits around blood vessels’ walls known as atherosclerosis, and irregular heartbeats. The important parts of the cardiovascular system are arteries, veins, heart and valves. These structures make up a complex network whose function is to regulate blood circulation in the human body. As per an estimate, it circulates around 5litres of blood every minute through more than 60 million miles of vessels throughout the body. Blood circulation takes place in two steps through these vessels that include arteries and veins. The blood will eventually reach the right parts of the body in the right quantities. It will flow around muscles, organs, and tissues or travel through the lymphatic system. The cardiovascular system is composed of five systems: 1. Blood Vessels– Blood vessels are tubes vessels that transport blood to and from different parts of the body. They work together to deliver oxygen-rich blood that is required for tissue metabolism. These tube-like structures can be divided into arteries that are larger in diameter, veins that are smaller in diameter, arterioles that are flat structures between arteries and veins. The three major groups of blood vessels are called arteries, veins, and capillaries. 71cfa1e7782071
